About the Elm Tree Project

One of Brown's majestic elm trees succumbed to Dutch Elm Disease and had to be cut and removed from where it has stood for more than 100 years. Faculty and students from Brown and RISD are joining together to document, reflect upon, and work to continue its legacy. The “tree” invokes ideas and feelings that extend throughout history, culture, science and the arts.

We are planning a series of courses, exhibitions, performances, and events to document and to create works inspired by this and by other trees.
